Job Location:

The FST Headquarters is co-located with a teaching and demonstration farm called City Bitty Farm (CBF). CBF is a 2-acre urban vegetable farm with a year-round greenhouse and outdoor garden. This job is located at the FST Headquarters office in southeast Kansas City, Missouri, just west of the old Bannister Mall. It is easy to get to from US-71 and I-435.

 

Position Description:

The primary responsibility of the Inside Sales Specialist will be to increase sales of movable and fixed high tunnels, turfgrass, utility, and animal husbandry structures, as well as sales of a wide range of small-scale agricultural tools, implements, and supplies offered by FST. In order to accomplish this, the Sales Specialist will need to provide product and service quotes to the current and prospective customers, convert customer inquiry to sales and continuously maintain positive contact with the customers.

The Inside Sales Specialist must demonstrate attention-to-detail and persistence in closing the deal. This position is the primary person responsible for communicating with the customer through their relationship with FST. They should maintain a professional attitude, even when under pressure, and reflect an optimism and positivity about the company and its products. This person will also be an advocate for the customer within FST, ensuring that the company considers the impact of decisions on the customer and that new insight about customer needs are captured and acted upon.

The ideal candidate has a passion for sustainable agriculture, can meet productivity goals with a positive attitude and can tackle multiple projects simultaneously.

 

Detailed Description of Responsibilities:

  1. Handle and respond to inbound phone, social media and email inquiries from prospective customers interested in purchasing or learning more about high tunnels or other FST products and services.
  2. Work closely with FST staff to create revenue growth for the company.
  3. Upsell products and make service recommendations based on customer needs.
  4. Generate quotes for new and returning customers.
  5. Build and maintain relationships with prospective and current customers.
  6. Maintain positive social media presence.
  7. Mine data and social media activity for potential clients and future opportunities.
  8. Develop and distribute e-newsletter and direct mail to past customers.
  9. Develop methods to increase contacts on email list.
  10. Develop and distribute quarterly and special occurrence email blasts.
  11. Accomplish other duties as assigned.

 

Basic Qualifications

The following is required to be considered for this position:

  1. Two years related sales experience, or equivalent.
  2. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
  3. Experience documenting contact history and client notes within CRM software.

Compensation

Full time employment

Starting compensation $12.50-$15/hr based on experience

Review after 180 days with opportunity for increase based on performance to date.

Variable Incentive Compensation starting at first $1 sold.

Tiered Variable Compensation based on sales level retroactive to first $1 of each quarter.

UNCAPPED Variable Incentive Compensation.

 

Training

The training for the Inside Sales Specialist will be ongoing. The first two weeks of employment consist of product, process and computer systems training. You will continue the learning process as you work closely with other staff and management to develop best practices for sales and customer communication.

About the Position:
Our ideal candidate would have a passion for local, year-round, food production and a sincere eagerness to learn. The high production at CBF requires frequent germinating, watering, harvesting, washing and packaging greens to be delivered to local restaurant and corporate clients twice a week, 52 weeks a year. The greenhouses at CBF help control the environment allowing production in the hottest days of the summer, and the coldest days of the winter.

CBF is a dynamic work environment where processes and responsibilities may change and evolve over time. We desire candidates who exhibit a positive attitude and willingness to work hard, and complete repetitive tasks. The individual employed in the position must always respect food safety practices.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Support the farm, and associated businesses (Four Season Tools and AgRoofs)

  • Germination, watering, harvesting, washing / packaging greens, & associated record keeping.

  • Delivery of microgreens, invoicing, and customer service for CBF clients

  • Assist in managing and maintaining the outdoor garden, fruit / nut trees, and transplants grown in the greenhouse.

  • Assist in keeping inventory of seeds, compost, and supplies as well as handle procurement of materials.

  • Assist in cleaning, construction, and maintenance of the farm, facility, grounds, garden, and greenhouses.

  • Assist in marketing and public relations, always promoting a positive brand image for FST and CBF.

Experience Requirements:

  • Experience with food production, greenhouses, client relations, delivery, and construction preferred.

Desired Skills:

  • Applicant must have strong organizational skills, ability to work independently, and meet timelines.

  • Applicant must be able to articulate themselves well to clients, tour groups, and other employees.

  • Applicant must be flexible, have well-developed interpersonal skills, and be able to multi-task.

  • Applicant must be able to safely operate and be comfortable with power tools and gas equipment.

  • Applicant must be able to perform physical tasks for prolonged hours outdoors.

  • Applicant must be trustworthy, have a strong moral character, and be willing for CBF to perform both a background check and have their driver’s record reviewed.

Schedule:

  • Seeking Full-Time Employees.

  • The farm is open 7 days / week.

  • Staff rotates responsibility for opening the farm as early at 7:15am and closing as late as 6:15pm.

  • The primary work days are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday.

  • The staff schedules and rotates responsibility for farm chores on Wednesday, Saturday, & Sunday.

Compensation: 

  • $8.50 - $10.50 based on experience.
